Cellular Jail National Memorial in Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair) stands as an enduring symbol of the immense sacrifices made by India's freedom fighters during colonial rule. Built between 1896 and 1906, its distinctive seven-wing radial architecture once held prominent revolutionaries.
A visit here is most meaningful when approached with solemnity, taking time to read historical archives, walk the corridors, and understand the background of the penal settlement.
Still photography is permitted across open courtyards, watchtowers, and exterior corridors upon paying a nominal camera ticket fee at the official entry portal. However, photography is strictly prohibited inside specific art galleries and sensitive museum wings.
Avoid disruptive posing or selfie sticks in crowded areas. Always maintain dignity and respect other visitors paying tribute to the martyrs.
Don't rush through after snapping photos of the central tower. Explore the Netaji Gallery, the Freedom Fighters Photo Gallery, the Old Execution Room (Gallows), and Veer Savarkar's original cell on the third floor of Wing 4.
