Accepted by 3-star+ resorts, established dive centers, and large supermarkets. Some island properties may apply a 2%-2.5% card swipe surcharge.

Widely supported by merchants, but fails immediately when 4G network drops. Use it as a convenience when connected, but never as your only wallet.
3. The Golden Cash Rule for Island Hopping
Recommended Cash Carry Calculation:
Calculate ₹3,000 to ₹4,000 per couple per day (or ₹2,000 to ₹2,500 per solo traveler per day) for the number of days you will spend on Havelock Island and Neil Island combined, over and above your pre-paid hotels and ferry tickets.
- Water Sports & Photo Packages: ₹1,500 to ₹4,500 per activity (often cash-preferred by operators on the beach).
- Two-Wheeler Rental: ₹500 to ₹800 per day + petrol (cash payment only).
- Local Taxis & Autos: ₹200 to ₹1,200 per point-to-point transfer.
- Beachside Dining & Cafes: ₹800 to ₹2,500 per meal for two.
4. Currency Exchange & Foreign Exchange (Forex)
Foreign travelers carrying US Dollars, Euros, British Pounds, or Australian Dollars should exchange their currency in mainland gateway cities (Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai) or immediately upon landing in Port Blair:
- Veer Savarkar Airport (Port Blair): Forex exchange counter located inside the arrival hall.
- State Bank of India (Main Branch, Port Blair): Located near Aberdeen Bazaar, offering official central bank exchange rates during weekday banking hours (10:00 AM - 3:30 PM).
- Authorized Forex Dealers: Available in Port Blair town center. International credit cards can also withdraw INR cash directly from national bank ATMs across Port Blair.
- Havelock & Neil Alert: There are no authorized currency exchange counters on Neil Island, and Havelock options are extremely limited with unfavorable conversion rates. Exchange all currency beforehand.
